East Cedar Street Extrication

On July 9th 2008, Fairview was dispatched for a motor vehicle collision at 2:09 PM. The accident was reported to be in the area of East Cedar St and Buckingham Ave. Upon arrival Chief Tory Gallante found a two car collision with one person entrapped. Firefighters and Alamo EMS immediately began to care for the entrapped person and the four additional patients. The patient was heavily entrapped with about one and a half feet of intrusion into the passenger compartment. The hydraulic tools were required to gain access. The patient was protected and cared for by Alamo, while the roof was removed from the vehicle by Fairview. The patient was safely extricated in under 30 minutes from fire department arrival. The patient was transported to the hospital for further treatment and evaluation. Multiple mutual aid Alamo ambulances and the Town of Poughkeepsie Police assisted at the scene. An engine from the Roosevelt Fire District was relocated to the Fairview Fire Station. All photos by Darryl Bautista of The Poughkeepsie Journal.
